Overview
The level 3 NVQ Electrical (2357-44) is for those who are currently working in the industry and have completed their level 2 and 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (2365) or equivalent older qualifications and want to become a qualified electrician.
This isn’t a classroom-based qualification and is completed in the workplace. To be able to complete this qualification you must be able demonstrate your electrotechnical competency by completing a portfolio of evidence gained from electrical installations you’ve installed on site.
Part of the process will also include On-Site assessments carried out by an NVQ assessor who will also be on hand to support and guide you through the process of gaining your NVQ. Once completed the final stage in becoming fully qualified is to complete the AM2.
The AM2 is a three-day trade test which independently assesses occupational competence of those entering the electrical industry as qualified electricians and is completed at an AM2 approved centre.

Once you’ve completed your NVQ Level 3 and AM2 assessment you’ll be able to apply for your JIB Gold card with registered electrician status.

Course Content:
The Electrical Installation NVQ 2357 Level 3 consists of seven units, 311 to 313 & 315 to 318 and each unit needs to be completed over three separate occasions.
- Unit 311 – Applying Health and Safety Legislation and Working Practices (Installing and Maintaining Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment)
- Unit 312 – Applying Environmental Legislation, Working Practices and the Principles of Environmental Technology Systems
- Unit 313 – Overseeing and Organising the Work Environment (Electrical Installation)
- Unit 315 – Planning, Preparing and Installing Wiring Systems and Associated Equipment in Buildings, Structures and the Environment
- Unit 316 – Terminating and Connecting Conductors, Cables and Flexible Cords in Electrical Systems
- Unit 317 – Inspecting, Testing, Commissioning and Certifying Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment in Buildings, Structures and the Environment
- Unit 318 – Diagnosing and Correcting Electrical Faults in Electrical Systems and Equipment in Buildings, Structures and the Environment
The above units can be achieved on several jobs and at multiple locations.
Evidence is collected by a combination of observations, professional discussions with your assessor, witness statements and site diary’s which will enable you to compile a portfolio of evidence
