The Experienced Worker qualification is for electricians who have been working in the industry, as a practising electrician, for at least 5 years (not including time spent in full or part time training) but have not formally completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ qualification. It is suitable for both self-employed and employed electricians who have worked for several years but have never gained full, formal recognition of their skills or experience. You will need to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and competence to the standard of the Level 3 Electrotechnical apprenticeship.

We will carry out a Skills Scan to determine your eligibility for the Experienced Worker Qualification by helping you understand the depth of knowledge, skill and experience that will be expected to complete the assessment.

Course Entry Requirements:

  • The qualification is not suitable for new entrants to the electrotechnical industry, apprentices, or those who have completed an electrotechnical technical qualification with less than last five years relevant experience as an electrician.
  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations*
  • Level 3 Inspection & Testing*

*Not required to enrol must be achieved in order to complete the qualification

This qualification can be started at any time.

Assessment:

Evidence is collected by a combination of observations, professional discussions with your assessor, witness statements and site diary’s which will enable you to compile a portfolio of evidence

What can I do on completing the course? 

After completing this qualification you’ll need to pass the AM2E assessment.

The AM2E is a three-day trade test which independently assesses occupational competence of those entering the electrical industry as qualified electricians and is completed at an independent AM2E approved centre.

Once you’ve completed your NVQ Level 3 and AM2E assessment you’ll be able to apply for your JIB Gold card with Registered Electrician status.

Course Content:

To achieve the City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification (Installation) learners must achieve six performance units:

102 Apply Health, Safety and Environmental Considerations

106 Organise and Oversee the Electrical Work Environment

108 Terminate and Connect Conductors

109 Apply Design and Installation Practices and Procedures

113 Inspect, Test and Commission Electrical Systems

115 Apply Fault Diagnosis and Rectification

To pass these units, you must provide evidence from a site of your previous work to demonstrate you can fully meet the performance requirements of each unit.

You’ll be assessed via a range of methods and an assessor will need to observe you at work on at least one occasion during the evidence gathering process.

Additionally, units for BS 7671:2018 and Initial Verification are examined within the Experienced Worker qualification if you do not already have these qualifications.
